LIWA: The Wilayat of Liwa in the Governorate of North Al Batinah is witnessing significant developments in various vital and recreational areas.
The Liwa Public Park, located west of the roundabout of the Wilayat of Liwa towards the line leading to the Al Batinah Highway and the mountainous tourist villages, is one of the largest recreational spaces in the wilayat and the largest in terms of area in the wilayats of Governorate of North Al Batinah. It was inaugurated in conjunction with the Sultanate’s celebrations of the 47th Glorious National Day on an area of 66,000 sq mts at an estimated cost of RO 500,000.
The park is an open space for public recreational activities of up to 60,000 square metres. It has general and special children’s games for disabled people, 10,000 square metres’ walkways, a fountain, 6 shaded guesthouses and 11,000 square metres of green space. The project consists of a rock garden, a tree labyrinth game, a cafe, and public toilets.
Dr Shaikh Said bin Humaid al Harthy, Wali of Liwa, told Oman News Agency, that “Liwa Public Park is an important facility in the wilaya. It was established by a real partnership between the public, private and community sectors. It was funded by Orpic and Sohar Aluminum. It is a true translation of cooperation of the two sectors and society.
“The park provides the residents with a comfortable and attractive environment that brings them together and their families for hiking, walking, as well as children’s games and other entertainment,” he added.
“Everyone recognises the importance of parks in the gathering of families, especially during the weekly, official, religious and national holidays,” said Said bin Sulayem al Kalbani, Director General of the Regional Municipalities and Water Resources in the Governorate of North Al Batinah. “These families find a suitable place to entertain themselves and for their children to spend times of joy and fun.”
He pointed out that Liwa Public Park is a suitable station for these gatherings as it was established to serve the people of the wilaya and residents. There are 58 children’s games, special spaces for people with disabilities, walking paths, fountain, waterfall, shades, recreational space and green spaces designed to create a natural environment for families. It is located between the centre of the wilayat, the new residential area and the mountain villages, which help visitors to make use of the facilities of the park.
The importance of this project is that it is an environmental project that has a positive impact on the health, social or sports aspect, in a strategic and vital position. — ONA
